Knoxville — The Knoxville Police Department and Marion County Sheriff's Department are participating in a Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau special Traffic Enforcement Program wave going on this weekend.
Lt. Aaron Fuller with the KPD said residents can expect extra officers on patrol. They will be looking for drunk drivers, in connection with St. Patrick's Day celebrations.
During the STEP wave last St. Patrick's Day, there were 16,279 traffic violations reported by 234 law enforcement agencies that had more than 1,600 officers working the enforcement event.
The next STEP wave will be May 20-June 2 during the Memorial Day holiday.
