Jessie Heaberlin

Funeral services for Jessie Heaberlin of Pleasantville were held on Friday, July 26, 2013, at the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Flagg and Willa Heaberlin officiating. Burial followed in the Pleasantville Cemetery. Midge Brooks, organist and Zada Burrell, vocalist shared “In the Garden” and “Old Rugged Cross”. Casket bearers were Bryce Heaberlin, Brad Heaberlin, Carl Bonham, Steve Renfrow, Bryan Heaberlin, Brad Klauenberg, Rob Nester and Denny Renfrow.

Jessie Maxine Heaberlin was born July 28, 1914, in rural Pleasantville, the daughter of Blaine Core and Mary Nona (Shawver) Core.

She graduated with the Pleasantville High School Class of 1931. Jessie worked at Zondervan’s Restaurant before she was united in marriage to Stanley Heaberlin. Stanley ran a filling station and a trucking business for several years.

In 1947, they sold the business and moved to their farm, north of Pleasantville, where Jessie resided until August 2012. Stanley was elected to the Iowa Senate for two terms and Jessie served as his secretary. She was also the organist for St. Paul’s United Methodist Church for many years.

Jessie passed away on Monday, July 22, 2013, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center at the age of 98 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; son, Carl, in a military plane crash in 1960 and five siblings: Elizabeth, Dorothy, Donald, Reuben and Willis.

Those left to honor her memory include two sons, Gene (Janice) Heaberlin of Pleasantville and Willis Bruce Heaberlin of Ft. Myers, Fla.; brothers, Lyle Core of Indianola and Maurice Core of Columbus, Ohio; sister-in-law, Phyllis Core of Carlisle; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
