Gay Birkenholz

Memorial services for Gay Birkenholz, of Chariton and formerly Knoxville, were held on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at the Harvey Assembly of God Church in Harvey, with Rev. Mike Miller officiating.

Gay Louise Birkenholz was born June 17, 1938, in Chariton, the daughter of James and Laveeta (Deny) Morton.

She was raised in rural Chariton and graduated from Derby High School in 1956. On March 2, 1957, she was united in marriage to Irvin Birkenholz. The couple lived in Red Rock and later in Knoxville. Gay worked most of her life for Knoxville Area Community Hospital as a C.N.A. and retired in 1997 as a ward clerk.

In her spare time, she enjoyed bingo and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren: Zachary, Auston and Marissa. She also loved her church family at the Harvey Assembly of God and Gay spent many hours volunteering at Helping Hands.

Gay passed away on Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at the Chariton Nursing & Rehab Center at the age of 75 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Joan Clare.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Irvin and son, Russell both of Chariton; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and her step-sister, Valeeta Pugh of Chariton and many other family members and friends.

For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the family. Online condolences may be left at BertrandFuneralHomes.com
