Diana "Deanie" Visser

A celebration of life for Diana “Deanie” Visser, of Pella, was held on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home in Knoxville with Chaplain Mike Jaarsma officiating, and Carrie England, Eulogist.

“Amazing Grace” was shared by Chaplain Mike Jaarsma, guitarist and a solo selection was sung by Sylvia Visser. “Chestnut Mare” and “Till the Sun’s Gone” were also played. Deanie has been cremated and burial will be in the Eureka Cemetery, Harvey, at a later date.

Diana Jean “Deanie” Visser was born Nov. 9, 1955 in Knoxville, the daughter of Duane and Maxine (Schakel) Allen.

Deanie was raised in Knoxville and graduated with the Class of 1974. During high school she was a lifeguard at the Knoxville Pool. She worked for Jim Darnell’s DX station after high school. On April 24, 1978, she was united in marriage to Mike Visser in Unionville, Mo. The couple lived south of Knoxville until 1992, when they moved to Pella. Deanie and Mike owned and operated Mike Visser’s Cycle Works in Pella from 1988 to 2006. For the last few years, Deanie has worked at the Comfort Inn in Pella.

In her spare time, Deanie enjoyed antiquing, rummage sales, quilting and was a member of the Pella Quilt Guild. She also liked working in her flower garden and taking care of the yard. She and Mike would go rock hunting, mushrooming and collected Indian artifacts. One of Deanie’s favorite memories was visiting her daughter, Sundance, while she was studying abroad in Paris.

Deanie passed away on Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Comfort House, in Pella, at the age of 57 years.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Mike of Pella; daughter, Sundance of Fairbanks, Alaska; parents, Duane and Maxine Allen of Shenandoah, Iowa; brother, Michael of Shenandoah, Iowa and her sister, Deborah Allen of Clarinda and many other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Comfort House of Pella. Online condolences may be left at BertrandFuneralHomes.com
