Leota (Loda) Nelson, 83 of Melcher-Dallas passed away on Feb. 19, 2014, in her home.
Leota was born on March 10, 1930, in Pleasantville to Frank and Jennie Steiert Nelson. She graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1948. Leota lived in Melcher-Dallas all of her adult life. She worked for Merchants Bonding Company in Des Moines where she retired after 47 years. Leota enjoyed playing Bingo, making Christmas candy, camping with her great niece Jenni (Cowman) Rowley at the Iowa State Fair and spending time with Jenni and her family.
Leota is survived by her sister-in-law Edna VanderLinden Nelson; a niece Cindy (Kevin DeGoey) Nelson of Knoxville, two nephews: Chuck (Rhonda) Nelson and Barry Nelson of Melcher-Dallas; six great nieces and nephews; 12 great- great nieces and nephews; and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Charles Nelson and a niece Cheryl (McCullough) Nelson.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas. Inurnment will take place in Pleasantville Cemetery. Condolences may be shared at www.pierschbacherfuneralhome.com. Memorials can be given to Melcher-Dallas Fire and Rescue.
