Harold Loynachan

Knoxville — Harold Marvin Loynachan, age 99 of rural Knoxville, passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 19, 2013, at the Westridge Nursing & Rehab Center in Knoxville.

Harold was born on the family’s farm near Bussey on Feb. 15, 1914, the son of David “Mac” and Anna (Hutchinson) Loynachan.  At the age of three Harold and his family moved to a farm near Pershing where Harold was raised.  Harold lived and farmed all of his life on this farm.  He also attended and graduated from the Attica High School, class of 1930.

After high school Harold farmed and traveled to the west coast and down south with his friends, always coming back to his home and farming in Marion County.  He was also a school bus driver for many years.

On July 21, 1940, at the First Methodist Church in Greenfield, Iowa, Harold and Esther Lucille Hayden were united in marriage. Harold and Esther shared over 60 years of marriage and were blessed with two sons, Ted and Tom. Esther passed away in February 2001.

Harold had many talents and enjoyed sharing his talents with family and friends.  He had a fantastic memory all his life and was a wonderful story teller.  He enjoyed hunting and was affiliated with the Zion Methodist Church in Pershing.

Harold is survived by his two sons, Ted (Dixie) Loynachan of Knoxville and Tom (Jeanie) Loynachan of Ames; five grandchildren, Mark, Tim, Alan, and Brian Loynachan, and Carla Ramirez; ten great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren. Harold is also survived by a special friend Nancy McDonald of rural Knoxville. He was preceded by his parents, David “Mac” and Anna Loynachan; his wife, Esther Loynachan; and two brothers, Everett and Ray Loynachan.

Funeral Services were held Monday, Dec. 23, at the Winfield Funeral Home, with Pastor Andrew Schmidt officiating.  Burial followed services at the Breckenridge Cemetery of rural Knoxville.       

A memorial has been established to Care Initiatives, the Zion Methodist Church of Pershing or the Breckenridge Cemetery Association. Condolences may be sent to The Winfield Funeral Home is assisting Harold’s family with services.
