Carrie Ellis

Phoenix, Ariz. — Carrie Louise (Apel) Ellis, born Oct. 24, 1914, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2014, in Phoenix, Ariz., at the age of 99 years. She was the daughter of Charline Cronacher Apel and Orville J. Apel. She attended schools in Ironton, Ohio, graduating from Ironton High in 1932. She met and married the love of her life, Jess B. "Joe" Ellis in 1936. They were blessed with two sons – Charles (Linda) Ellis of Phoenix, Ariz., and Dr. Larry J. (Dori) Ellis of Albuquerque, N. M. She has four grandsons, Joe (Emily) Ellis, Rob (Cynthia) Ellis, Dr. Scott (Dr. Esther) Ellis and Dr. Matt (Dr. Sheila) Ellis, and nine great grandchildren.

The happiest years of her life followed her marriage to Joe and the raising of their two sons.  Job opportunities moved the family several times before settling in Knoxville in 1951. Joe passed away in 1964, and she continued living in Knoxville until 1973. In later years she split time living in Naperville, Ill., back home in Ironton, Ohio, and since 2003 in Phoenix, Ariz. During her most recent stay in Ironton she was active in the Lutheran Church and in Eastern Star.

There will be a graveside ceremony at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville, at 1 p.m. on May 9, 2014,  with Pastor Kristine Dohrmann of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church officiating.  She will be put to rest in a place she so longed for, next to her husband.  Williams Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
