Curtis Ewing

Curtis Edward Ewing of Knoxville was born on Nov. 23, 1928, in Waukon, Iowa, the son of Jacob Ewing and Gladys (Hastings) Ewing.

He grew up in the Waukon and Lansing area. Curtis was united in marriage to Louise Amling on March 3, 1950, in Freeport, Ill. They moved their family to Cedar Rapids where Curtis worked as a mechanic at the Fox Garage for over 30 years. He then went on to work at MCI before retiring. Following retirement, Curtis and Louise moved to Knoxville where they have lived for the last 12 years.

Curtis had a great sense of humor, a nickname for everyone and loved to tell stories. He enjoyed being outdoors, doing yard work, working in his garden and fishing. He and Louise enjoyed their time together going to movies and out to eat. Curtis was always more of a buddy than a Dad to his kids and they loved him for that.

He passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at the Pella Regional Health Center at the age of 84 years.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Nina Sloatman and a brother, Milton Ewing.

Survivors include his wife, Louise; children, Kevin (Barbara) Ewing of Knoxville, Lon (Roseanne) Ewing of Bellevue, Neb., Christine (Dale) Schrader of Hastings, Minn.; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Marjorie (Ron) Dagel of Tyler, Texas; and a brother, Jerrold (Lois) Ewing of Loveland, Colo.
