---- — Lester Roff

Lester Dale Roff was born May 2, 1928, in Knoxville, the son of George and Hazel (Bennett) Roff. He was united in marriage to Helen Wheeldon on March 18, 1950. Les had lived in Pleasantville and Milo, before finally settling in Knoxville for the last 37 years. He had worked for Smiths doing farm work, Polk City Grain as a truck driver, in the factory at Maytag, as a bulldozer and tiler for McCormicks and as a welder at Johnson Machine Works. Les retired in 1991.

Les loved to fish and to hunt coons, deer, pheasant and squirrels, and was a member of the Red Rock Coon Hunters Association. He enjoyed reading western books and going to country music festivals. Many times he could be found in the garage working on a project. He also liked driving over to look at the buffalo. Most of all, Les loved his family and would often say “I wouldn’t take a million for the kids I have, but I wouldn’t give fifty cents for another”.

Les passed away Saturday, June 8, 2013, at the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics at the age of 85 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; and siblings, Irma (Lloyd) Karr, Velta (Eugene) Light and Robert (Nellie) Roff.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Jerry (Virginia) Roff of Pleasantville, Pam (Dave) Glick of Knoxville, Carla (Dale) Herold of Pleasantville, Phyllis Roff of Knoxville, Roger (Candis) Roff of Pleasantville and Darla (Roger) Sytsma of Knoxville; foster-brother, Leslie Schaefer; 12 grandchildren, Joseph (Shannon) Roff, Brian (Jennifer) Glick, Jared (Erin) Glick, Carrie (Joe) Rempe, Casey (Shawn) DeMan, Andrew Herold, Michael (Rachel) Davis, Brandon Davis, Autumn Davis, Hayley Sytsma, Harlan Sytsma and Anthony Bender; and 11 great-grandchildren, Joshua, Vincent and Chloe Roff, Colton, Remmington, Alena and Weston Glick, Hope DeMan, Carter Glick, and MacKenzie and Maddison Varner.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, June 12, at Williams Funeral Home with Pastor Brent Hanna officiating. Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery in rural Knoxville. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to HCI Care Services.
