Dr. Frank Allen Peak

Dr. Frank Allen “Doc” Peak, DVM, age 86, of Knoxville, passed away Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at the West Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville.

Frank was born on the family farm in St. Mary’s, Iowa, on Aug. 11, 1927, the son of Ralph and Georgia (Fox) Peak. Frank was raised near St. Mary’s and graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1943. At the age of 17 Frank attended Iowa State College studying veterinarian medicine. Frank graduated from Iowa State College in 1949.

After college, Frank began working with the U.S.D.A. in Mexico. He worked in Mexico for three years before enlisting in the United States Air Force. Frank served his country in 1953 and 1954.

On Jan. 14, 1954, in Winterset, Iowa, Frank and Mary Virginia Scrivner were united in marriage. Frank and Mary shared 59 years of marriage and were blessed with five children: Lisa, Peter, Marty, Carmen and Meredith.

In 1954 Frank and Mary moved to Knoxville where he worked as a veterinarian with the Knoxville Veterinarian Clinic, of which he became a part owner. Frank was a veterinarian in Knoxville for 25 years, retiring in 1979 and moving to Panama. Frank and Mary lived in Panama for two years where Frank worked at a military veterinarian hospital. They moved back to Knoxville in 1981 and Frank owned and operated a gas station for a short time and later was a Marion County Supervisor.

Frank enjoyed learning all his life. He became an airplane pilot, he became a certified scuba diver and he was also trained in welding. He enjoyed boating and mushroom hunting. He owned a farm close to where he was raised and he liked working on the farm and his acreage in Knoxville.

Frank is survived by his wife, Mary of Knoxville, his children, Peter Peak of Bradenton, Fla., Marty Peak of St. Charles, Iowa, and Meredith (Todd) Van Benthuysen of Azle, Texas; one grandson, Peter; and two step grandchildren, Talon and Ryk VanBenthuysen; and one sister Jean Hadsall of St. Mary’s, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Lisa and Carmen Peak; and one sister, Marjorie Loomis.

The family of Frank Peak invite you to a memorial luncheon in celebration of his life at the Marion County Fairgrounds, Dyer-Hudson Hall, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013.
