Ethel Cunningham

Funeral services for Ethel Cunningham, of Osceola, were held on Monday, April 1, 2013, at the Bybee and Davis Funeral Home with Rev. Phillip Frankford officiating. Burial followed in the Graceland Cemetery. Musical selections of “Old Rugged Cross”, “In the Garden” , “I’ll Be” and “Amazing Grace” were shared. Casket bearers were Gary Cunningham, Danny Cunningham, Jr., Danny Cunningham, Sr., Melvin Cunningham and James Urias.

Ethel Mae Cunningham was born Dec. 8, 1931, in Ottumwa, the daughter of Dwight and Catherine (Richards) Frost.

She was raised and educated in Ottumwa. Ethel was united in marriage to Adolfs Jack Adolfs and to that union three children were born. The couple lived in Evansdale most of their married lives. Ethel later moved to Waterloo where she lived for many years. She moved to Tracy in 1985 and in 1988, she was married to Ernest Leroy Cunningham I. The couple lived in Bussey and eventually moved to rural Knoxville. Ernest died in 2008 and in 2010 Ethel moved to Osceola.

In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, sewing and making Barbie furniture. Her family was very important and she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ethel passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013, at the Clarke County Hospital, in Osceola, at the age of 81 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Frost; sister, Kay Murphy and her husband, Ernest Cunningham.

Those left to honor her memory include her children: Anita Neessen (Brad) of Waterloo and their children: Robin (Brett) Thomas and Carrie; Richard Adolfs (Ramona) of Aplington and their children: Barry, Eric (Anna) and Heather; Sheila Cunningham (Danny, Sr.) of Knoxville and their children: Melanie (James) Urias and Jennifer (Robert) Hruska, Danny (Shelly) Cunningham, Jr.; Kelvin Adolfs of Osceola and his daughter, Catherine; Scott Adolfs (Lavonne) of Osceola and their children: Flora, Roy, and Mindy; and Marty Adolfs of Pella and his daughters: Shyan and Julia; step-children: Ernest Cunningham II (Rebecca) of Humeston and their children: Ernest Leroy III (Kristi), Gidget (Duane) Showers, Christopher (Bobby) Susan (Gregory) Gilbert, Nathan Cunningham; Larry Cunningham (Joni) of Brownsburg, Texas and their children: Larry Jr. and Stacey (Traci); Danny Cunningham, Sr. (Sheila) of Knoxville and their children: Melanie (James) Urias, Jennifer (Robert) Hruska, Danny Jr. (Shelly); Becky Dowell of Knoxville and her children: Phillip (Paula), James (Selena), Michelle Kelsey; Melvin Cunningham (Rachel) of Norwalk and their children: Diana (Dan) Kent, Traci, Michael, Katie; Marvin Cunningham of Albia and his children: Marvin Jr. and Carrie; Gary Cunningham (Stacey) of Norwalk and their children: Gary Jr. (Amy), Anthony, Joshua, Matthew; great-grandchildren: Sylvia, Justin, Heather, Ava, Justin, Dylan, Allyson, Aaron, Ashley, Ethan, Owen, Evan, Issac, Katie, Aron, Cassie, Destiny; many step grand and step great-grandchildren and other family members and friends.
