Funeral services for Bernita Vande Kamp, of Knoxville, were held on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home with Swann Juline officiating. Burial followed in the Graceland Cemetery. Jim Kidder, organist, shared “Beyond the Sunset” and “In the Garden”. Casket bearers included Todd Vande Kamp, Monte Brown, Toby Vande Kamp, Tony Brown, Troy Vande Kamp and Tyler Vande Kamp. Honorary casket bearers: Rhonda Grimes, Trudy Vande Kamp, Tina Williams, Tammie Behlers, Michelle Brees and Missy Brown.

Bernita Mae Vande Kamp was born Sept. 6, 1924, in rural Pleasantville, the daughter of Earl Preston Cowman and Effie Luree (McDaniel) Cowman.

On June 19, 1941, Bernita was united in marriage to Glen Vande Kamp in Princeton, Mo. The couple lived in the Knoxville area all their lives. Bernita was a tireless worker and a dedicated farm wife. She raised a big garden, canned, took care of the chickens and any other chore that needed to be done. Bernita and Glen enjoyed many wonderful winters at Pine Island, Florida during their retirement. They always made friends wherever they traveled.

Bernita passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at the Knoxville Hospital at the age of 88 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Nancy in infancy; 3 infant siblings; her sister, Norma DeMoss; 2 brother-in-laws; son-in-law, Roger Brown; 2 grandchildren, Terry and Timothy and a great-granddaughter, Haley.

Those left to mourn her passing include her husband, Glen; children: Mary Lou (Larry) Smith of Knoxville, Larry (Patsy) Vande Kamp of Pleasantville, Patty Brown of Knoxville and Ron (Cindy) Vande Kamp of Knoxville; sister, Inez Jones of Knoxville; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
