Marvania Leeper

Marvania (Milledge) Leeper was born on June 2, 1927, to Ollie Sr. and Mary Milledge in rural Harvey (Harvey Island). She was a lifelong resident of Harvey. She graduated from Harvey High School. She was united in marriage to James W. Leeper on Feb. 22, 1947, at Tracy. She worked at the Knoxville Community Hospital for over 15 years before her retirement. Marvania held the most important job as a mother to her four boys, acting as their counselor and CEO of the household.

She had a lifelong dedication to serving God. Marvania was a member of the Harvey United Methodist Church. She enjoyed baking and gardening. She liked to watch any type of basketball on television. She also loved to play games and cards with her grandchildren.

Marvania passed away June 4, 2014, at The Cottages in Pella at the age of 87 years and 2 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie Sr. and Mary (DeGeest) Milledge; her husband, James W. Leeper; brother’s, Floyd, Murray, Edward and Ollie Jr.; and her sisters, Jesse, Lily, and Hazel.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Glen (Ruth) Leeper of Clemons, Iowa; Gary (Cheryl) Leeper of Two Harbors, Minn.; Dale (Susan) Leeper of Lufkin, Texas; David (Marcy) Leeper of Harvey; 10 grandchildren, Scott, Monica, Tanya, Jennifer, Joe, Erica, Tracy, Amy, Drew, and Cole; 12 great grandchildren, Chris, Larissa, Brandon, Hanna, Faith, Amber, Ruby, James, Caleb, Layla, Leslie and Zaine; 2 great-great grandchildren, Lia and Elizabeth; sister, Maxine (Pat) Riggin and sister-in-law, Ladana Milledge.

A visitation was held on Friday, June 6, at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, June 7, at the Harvey United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to the Harvey United Methodist Church or to WesleyLife’s The Cottages Activity Department.
