Guy Martz

Guy W. Martz, 77, formerly of Knoxville, died at 7:55 a.m. June 11, 2014, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

He was born March 28, 1937, near Chariton in Lucas County, to Howard and Betsy Price Martz. He married Estella Joyce Elliott in 1961. She preceded him in death on Jan. 2, 2004.

Guy was a Vietnam veteran, having served four years with the U.S. Army and 14 years with the U.S. Marine Corps.

Guy had worked at Big B Cleaners and for Area 15 Education Agency.

He had been a member of East End Pentecostal Church of God. Guy enjoyed woodworking and was always willing to help others.

Surviving is his son, Howard (Teresa) Martz of Des Moines; two daughters, Amanda Martz of Ottumwa and Andrea (Francisco) Irao of Los Gatos, Calif.; four grandchildren, Erin (Gavin) Weaver, Matthew Martz, Emily Martz and Frankie Irao; three great-grandchildren, Ava Weaver, Sophia Kendall and Elliana Weaver; and a brother, Mike Martz.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Colleen.

Funeral services were held June 16, 2014, at Reece Funeral Home with in Ottumwa with Rev. Kevin Umphress officiating. Burial was in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
