Erna Crane, age 89, of Bussey passed away Sunday morning, July 6, 2014, at the Pella Hospice Comfort House.
Erna was born Feb. 1, 1925, in Rodenbach, Germany, the daughter of Albert and Louise (Riese) Simosky. Erna was raised and attended school in Germany.
In 1948 in Germany, Erna and Glen Dale Crane were united in marriage. After Dale’s service in Germany, Dale and Erna came to the United States and settled in Bussey. Erna and Dale were blessed with four children: Carolyn, Marilyn, Dale and Joy. They shared 29 years of marriage before Dale’s passing in March of 1977.
Erna was a homemaker all her life. She was a member of the Bussey United Methodist Church and the Women’s Society.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dale; her daughter Dale Marie Bassett; two brothers, John and Karl Simosky; two sisters, Marie Kunhunn and Katherine Vinengaurd; and her brother-in-law Jim Perry.
Erna is survived by her children, Carolyn Perry of Monroe, Marilyn Sherman and Miles Sabin of Pella, Joy and Ron Dykstra of Bussey; son-in-law, Bob Bassett of Bussey; eight grandchildren, Terry (Donna) Bellon, Dustin (Nicole) Bellon, Marianne Stout and Scott Moore, Wade (Misty) Sherman, Rob (Jodi) Bassett, Jesy (Justin) Notle, Darby (Tony) Natale and Lesli (Michael) Lucente; and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her twin sister Matildia Keens.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17, at the Greenlawn Cemetery of Bussey. Dick Klobnak will be officiating services. Family and friends are invited back to Erna’s house in Bussey after services.
