In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to her church, Hospice of Central Iowa of Knoxville, or Park Lane Assisted Living in Knoxville. Online condolences for the family may be left at
Mary passed away Dec. 29 at the Knoxville Hospital at the age of 96. Mary A. McCoy was born Nov. 14, 1916, near Pleasantville, to William and Julia (Wright) McCoy. She was raised in the Pleasantville area and attended school there. Mary was married to William Jennings Hunt on June 21, 1935, and they were blessed with three children: Theodore, Thelma, and Billie.
Growing up Mary worked for neighbors by ironing, cleaning, and cooking. She worked at the overall factory and worked at Harrison's Dime Store for 17 years. She loved being a housewife, homemaker and taking care of her family. She was well known for her bread, pies, and especially her home made rolls. Mary was active in the New
Hope United Methodist Church. She belonged to the UMW and contributed wherever she could. Mary loved to travel and to see family. She was always ready to go when Thelma called; whether it was to go across town or across the country. Mary could do anything and was very determined if she needed something done. Billie had to take her chainsaw and ladder away when she wouldn't stop trimming trees or climbing to put plastic on the windows of her home.
Preceding Mary in death were her husband, William Jennings Hunt; parents, William and Julia; and her siblings: Harlan McCoy, Veda Davis, Faye Fisher, Luella Dahleen, Lindsey McCoy, Franklin McCoy; and two infant brothers.
She is survived by her children: Theodore (Darlene) Hunt of Jefferson City, Mo., Thelma (Bill) Roberts of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Billie (Sheryl) Hunt of Knoxville; along with five grandchildren: Elizabeth, John, Jayme, Kenny, and Brenda; nine great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; brother, Billie McCoy of Gig Harbor, Wash.; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
