Roy Goemaat, 87, passed away January 26, 2013 at Jefferson Place in Pella.

Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 10:30 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas with family receiving friends beginning at 10 a.m. Interment was at the Gullion Cemetery near Attica. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Marion County Humane Society. Condolences for the family may be left at www.pierschbacherfuneralhome.com .

Roy Goemaat was born June 25, 1925 near Attica, the youngest of Arend and Nellie Schakel Goemaat's ten children. He attended school at Attica. He was married to Ruth Wineland on April 4, 1946.  Although they had no children of their own, they always claimed their nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews as their own.  They farmed east of Knoxville their entire married life. He loved going to farm sales, having pets, and enjoyed people. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed playing practical jokes. He and Ruth loved to take trips all over the country with Marlin and Carol Wineland.  A few years after Ruth's death in 2001, Roy went to the nursing home. When family visited Roy, he always asked about how things were at the farm, and loved to joke around with them.

Roy Goemaat passed away January 26, 2013 at Jefferson Place in Pella at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth in 2001; parents: Arend and Nellie; and his siblings: Abraham (Josephine) Goemaat, Leonard (Pearl) Goemaat, Lester (Lucile) Goemaat, Floyd (Mildred) Goemaat, Alice (Raymond) Mathes, Johanna (Clifford) Jones, Francis (Kenneth) Whitlatch, Irene (Ferald) Hancock, and Mildred (Delbert) Spaur.

Surviving are his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Marlin and Carol Wineland; many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
