---- — Funeral services for Ruth Shives Loney, of Knoxville, were held on Monday, April 22, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Brent Hanna officiating. Burial followed in the Gosport Cemetery. Geoffrey Shultz, accompanist, and Cindy Hauschildt, vocalist, shared “In the Garden”, “Peace in the Valley” and “Old Rugged Cross”. Casket bearers included Todd Walker, Dusty Clark, Trent Loney, Mike Walker, Doug Kaster and Andrew Loney. Honorary casket bearers were: Nicole Sage, Melanie Shives, Darcy Juline, Keri Dockter, Scott Pinson, Kim Knode, Melissa Shives, Jenny Loney, Jason Wambolt and Michael Loney.
Ruth Arlene Shives Loney was born Feb. 22, 1925, in Kellogg, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Cecil (Kingery) Schrader.
As a girl Ruth attended country schools in Jasper and Marion Counties. On Oct. 31, 1942, she was united in marriage to Lee Shives in Missouri. To this union four children were born: Barbara, Bonnie, Betty and Bryan. Ruth worked at Pinky’s Drive In and the Royal Pastry Shop for several years. She later took at job at the Collins Hospital as a pharmacy assistant and eventually retired from the Knoxville Area Community Hospital in 1986.
In 1990 her husband, Lee, passed away. On March 4, 1996, she was united in marriage to Roy Loney in Columbia. The couple enjoyed wintering in Texas and traveling around the United States. They had visited 33 states during their retirement. Ruth and Roy attended the Iowa State Fair every summer. Ruth especially enjoyed the fiddler’s contest, and would sit and listen to their music every day in Pioneer Hall. She loved flowers and flower gardening. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, and making sure everyone received a birthday card.
Ruth was a member of the Iowa Federation of the Blind, Indianola Rebekah Lodge No. 111, and the Order of Eastern Star Pleasant Chapter No. 378. She had held many offices in the Eastern Star, including the Grand State Representative.
Ruth passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at the Knoxville Hospital at the age of 88 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lee Shives; sisters: Mildred DeMoss and Margaret McReynolds; brother, Harry James Schrader and her stepson, Greg Loney.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Roy; children: Barbara (Jim) Walker of Grand Junction, Iowa, Bonnie Kaster of Des Moines, Betty Clark of Knoxville and Bryan Shives of Knoxville; step-children: Michael (Lola) Loney of Houma, La.; Michelle (Marc) Wambolt of Phoenix, Ariz., and Cindy Loney of Raceland, La.; 9 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 7 step-great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; siblings: Stella Clark of Knoxville, Howard Schrader of Newton, Evelyn Bachman of Knoxville, Zelma Beebout of Columbia and Virgil Schrader of Columbia and many other family members and friends.
