Glen Dale Caswell

Glen Dale Caswell was born on Oct. 23, 1917, in Des Moines, the son of Robert and Mary (Caulkins) Caswell. He grew up near Knoxville where he was raised on his grandparents’ farm. Glen farmed for a short time and also drove trucks. When he was in his twenties, Glen moved to Des Moines and began working at John Deere. After nearly 15 years, he left Deere to work in real estate for a short time. He then began working at Iowa Machinery in Des Moines, from where he would retire.

In his spare time, Glen loved to travel in his motor home around the Midwest and visiting family out West. He enjoyed working on cars, woodworking and gardening. In his later years, he liked to go out dancing. Although he always maintained a gruff exterior, his family and especially his grandchildren knew he loved them because of his endless teasing.

Glen passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Regency Care Center in Norwalk at the age of 96 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years, Faye (McKim) Caswell; daughter, Kaye Kellis; four step-brothers and two step-sisters.

He is survived by his daughter, Vicki (John Lemley) Martin; son-in-law, Mike Kellis; grandchildren, David (Amy) Kellis, Chad (Jill) Kellis, Nicole (Ron) Zimmerman and Sara Santiago; ten great grandchildren; and two step-brothers.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, May 8, at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville with Pastor Brent Hanna officiating. Burial followed in Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.
