Donald Lee Rowland, age 80 of Council Bluffs, passed away May 9, 2014, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital. Don was born Oct. 28, 1933, in College Springs, Iowa, to Garold and Marjorie (Mitchell) Rowland, who preceded him in death. He was a 1952 graduate of Knoxville High School and The University of Nebraska at Omaha with a degree in criminal justice.
After serving in the U.S. Army, Don started his career in law enforcement with the Iowa State Patrol retiring as a Sergeant. After retirement, he became Chief Deputy with the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s office. He was also a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, Don is preceded in death by his infant brother Carroll. He is survived by his wife Elinor; daughter Sue Kealy and husband Bill; son Dan Rowland and wife Julie, daughters Melanie Brown, Diana Rossmann and husband Darin; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brothers Richard, James, and Gordon Rowland.
Funeral Services were held Monday in Council Bluffs. Memorials are suggested to the family, with charities to be determined.
