William Essig


Marceline — William P. Essig, age 78, of Marceline died Thursday Sept. 5, 2013, at his home.  Bill was born at Kansas City, Mo., on July 13, 1935, to Presley E. and Eva Jane (Swearngain) Essig.  He married Judith A. Goff on Nov. 27, 1959, and she survives him.  

Bill was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War and worked for the City of Marceline for 28 years in the street department as an equipment operator.  He was a member of the VFW Post #1471, Bethany Baptist Church, a former member of the Jaycees, all of Marceline and a Marceline resident all his life.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Judy Essig of the home in Marceline, daughter Rachel Smith, Marceline, and two grandsons, Matthew and Mitchell Smith.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. David Gouge officiating.  Burial was in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Marceline.  

Pallbearers will be Fred Dorrell, Barry Smith, Dennis Cupp, Ed Ewigman, Troy Bruner, Tommy Sportsman, and Joe Cordray. The family suggest memorials be made to Bethany Baptist Church Building Fund and these may be left at or mailed to Delaney Funeral Home 1720 N. Missouri Ave., Marceline, MO 64658.
