Creta Garrison

Creta Dianne Garrison was born on Oct. 19, 1951, in Pleasantville, the daughter of Raymond and Patty (Welshhons) Collins.

She was raised in Pleasantville and graduated from Pleasantville High School.

Creta moved to Des Moines after graduating and began working for Bankers Trust.

She was united in marriage to David Garrison on Feb. 19, 1972, in Knoxville, and the couple made their home in Knoxville.

She provided daycare for her relatives for the next 12 years.

She then started her career with Pella Corporation, where she was employed for 27 years.

She enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, camping and just lying in the sun.

She liked to play games on the computer and to cheer on the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Most of all, Creta loved being with family and caring for her husband, children and grandchildren.

Creta passed away on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at the age of 61 years at the Comfort House Hospice in Pella, with her family by her side.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Garrison in 2008; her father, Raymond; and two brothers, David and Steve Collins.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Shawn (Lisa) Garrison, Carrie (Matt) Allsup and Susan (Cale) Kendrick, all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Rachel and Grant Garrison and Clay and Ava Kendrick; mother, Patty Collins; and brother, Ronald Collins.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Celebrate Community Church in Knoxville. Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery in rural Knoxville.

For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
