Pleasantville — Memorial services for Marilyn Dunkel, of Pleasantville, were held on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at the Mason Funeral Home with Pastor Leo Freel officiating.  Musical selections of “The Dance” and “See You Again” were shared.

Marilyn Estelline (Lowe) Dunkel was born Jan. 5, 1944, in Chariton, the daughter of Max Eugene Lowe and Margaret Eloise (Dyer) Lowe.

As a girl, Marilyn lived in Chariton, Adair and Knoxville before her family moved to Pleasantville when she was in sixth grade. She graduated with the Pleasantville High School Class of 1963. After graduation, she worked for American Mutual Life in Des Moines until her son Damon was adopted in 1973. In 1976, she joined 3M Company in Knoxville where she worked for 25 years in Data Processing and Shipping & Receiving until her retirement in the summer of 2001. In her spare time Marilyn enjoyed doing many computer related activities – including archiving family history and creating videos, calendars and invitations for both family and friends. Family was the most important part of Marilyn’s life. She deeply cherished creating memories with her great nieces and nephews by hosting parties and sleepovers as well as entertaining them with crafts and scrapbooking.

Marilyn passed away from complications associated with lung cancer on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, surrounded by family at Mercy Hospital, in Des Moines, at the age of 69.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Those left to honor her memory include her son, Damon of Minneapolis, Minn.; mother, Margaret Lowe of Pleasantville; siblings: Jean Odom of Grimes, Ron (Yvonne) Lowe of Boulder, Mont.; Roger (Peggy) Lowe of Des Moines and Dean (Mary) Lowe of Indianola; nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and many other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.  Online condolences may be left at BertrandFuneralHomes.com
