Rita Lee

A Mass of Christian Burial for Rita D. Lee, of Knoxville, was held on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at the St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rev. Stephen P. Ebel, Celebrant. Burial followed in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Albia. Musical selections of: “Ave Maria”, “On Eagle’s Wings”, “Be Not Afraid”, “How Great Thou Art” and “Holy God, We Praise Thy Name” were shared by Karen Hollingshead, vocalist and Mary Burke, choir director. Casket bearers included: Greg Lee, Jim Lee, Bernard Lee, Terry Lee, Bob Lee and Brad Rockwood. Rita’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the honorary casket bearers.

Rita Dene Lee was born Feb. 12, 1927, in Monroe County, the daughter of Harry and Mamie (Flattery) Kosman.

She graduated from Albia High School with the Class of 1944. As a young woman, Rita worked as a telephone operator. On Nov. 21, 1953, she was united in marriage to Robert Eugene Lee. The couple raised their family, which would grow to seven children, in Knoxville. When the children were grown Rita worked at 3M for 13 years. She and Bob were very proud of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They have left their family a legacy of love, laughter, honesty and loyalty that will carry them throughout their lives.

Rita passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2013, at the Comfort House, in Pella, at the age of 86 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob and her brother, Garry Kosman.

Those left to honor her memory include five sons: Greg (JoAnn), Terry (Janet), Jim (Barb), Bob (Amy) of Knoxville and Bernard (Denise) of Pleasant Hill and two daughters: Linda (Dean) Stecker and Lori (Brad) Rockwood of Knoxville; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers: Francis Kosman and Harold Kosman both of Albia and her sisters: Marie Griffin of Albia and Doris Craig of Ankeny and many other family members and friends.
