Sarah Dye

Sarah Esther Dye, age 92, of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday evening, May 28, 2013, at the Pleasant Care living Center of Pleasantville.

Sarah was born at home on the family farm in Marion County on June 6, 1920, the daughter of John William and Cora Pearl (Bowery) Fawcett. Sarah attended Fee Country School before her mother passed and she stayed home to help her father.

On Oct. 15, 1940, Sarah and Ray Dean Dye were united in marriage. Sarah and Ray shared almost 50 years together and were blessed with two children: Karen and David. Ray died on May 23, 1990.

Sarah was a homemaker and worked at the Knoxville Overall Factory, the Pella Overall Factory, and Collins Hospital in the laundry. She also worked at the Knoxville V.A. Hospital in the kitchen until her retirement.

Sarah was member of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, ceramics, embroidering and doll collecting. She and her husband also enjoyed for several years a CB Club, of which they made many friends and visited different CB Clubs.

Sarah is survived by her daughter: Karen Lankford of Knoxville; her son: David (Venita) Dye of Denver, Colo.; one sister-in-law: Alice Fawcett of Knoxville; eight grandchildren: Jerry Lankford, Renae Lankford, Dale Sharp, Steven Sharp, Sherry (Millard) Gist, Deb (Ed) Cross, David Dye, Jr., and Scott Dye; 20 great-grandchildren; and 19 great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded by her parents: John and Cora Fawcett; her husband: Ray Dean Dye; her son-in-law: Walter Lankford; four brothers: Cecil, Wayne, Tommy, and Warren Fawcett; and her daughter-in-law: Cathy Dye.

Sarah’s wishes were to be cremated and a memorial services were heldSunday, June 2, at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville, with Elder Bill McDonald officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date at Graceland Cemetery of Knoxville.

A memorial has been established in Sarah’s name to the Marion County Humane Society. Condolences may be sent to www.winfieldfh.com. The Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville is assisting Sarah’s family with arrangements.
