To the editor:
It’s stunning and perplexing to me that you continue to use your periodic column almost exclusively as a personal political soapbox. Your unchecked neo-conservative rants jeopardize the integrity of the paper and the civility of discourse between neighbors. The owner of Journal Express should be ashamed (and should, perhaps, be organizing a search committee to find a more suitable editor).
A few excerpts from your latest spout-off entitled, "The Wisdom of Bill Clinton": “For a lot of us, we get that idea from the Bible, the word of God. But, apparently, the Democrats have a problem with God today”. And, “…many of them (democrats) advocate for the legality of killing babies.” These are just a couple of the more caustic examples of a rant against some mythic, looming democratic-led big government takeover, bent on destroying healthcare, limiting our freedoms, and undermining our charitable spirit. Please. Either you're writing your column after a caffeine-fueled bender with Rush Limbaugh on the radio, or you're simply regurgitating a constant diet of Tea-Party politics and the utopian fairy tale of America in the 1950’s.
If one believes in a nation divided — a nation where capitalism is worshipped as a solution to every problem and everything we produce (from widgets, to education, to healthcare), then I’m sure you’ll love the editor’s continued diatribes. If one believe that enterprise works best when it’s applied with reason and where capitalism can flourish because it’s not considered a panacea for every ill that faces our nation, then maybe you’d like a bit more representation in the nearly singular echoing voice of the Knoxville Journal Express.
