---- — Thank you

To the Editor:

In recent weeks, I have had contact with these three individuals :

Ms Janet Ritchie, Director of the Marion County Historical Society

Ms, Kathleen Smith, Curator of the Marion County Historical Museum

Ms. Roslin Thompson, Director of the Knoxville Public Library

I am writing to commend all three of them.

As a native of Knoxville, I was interested in obtaining a souvenir from the area. They were very responsive and helpful. They even went above and beyond to assist me.

Knoxville should be very proud of these individuals. They offer such a positive impression of the community.

Stop slaughter

To the Editor:

They will be passing a new federal Farm Bill soon. The factory farm industry was able to get an amendment added to the Farm Bill that would get rid of some of our laws that protect animals, workers and the environment.

This amendment would allow horse slaughter plants to open all across America, which would cause even more overbreeding.

Careless breeders rely on horse slaughter to get rid of excess horses and feed their greed.

More than 92 percent of horses going to slaughter are in good condition and many have been raised as companion animals. They are condemned to this horrific end, following a lifetime of service to humans.

Taxpayers would be forced to pay millions to pay for a new program to slaughter horses, when more than 80 percent of Americans are strongly opposed to horse slaughter. If someone can’t find a home for their horse, they have the responsibility to call the Humane Society, ARL, or, as a last resort, find humane euthanasia and disposal.

Please e-mail and call your representatives and ask them to support the “Safeguard American Food Exports Act.”

Finish Scripture

To the Editor:

Just thinking recently about Phil Robertson of “Duck Dynasty” fame, and his quoting a partial truth from the Bible. You know, the passage from 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 that starts like this:

“Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral nor idolators nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor the drunk nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God...”

Why did he stop there, leaving a bad taste of judgement, condemnation, doubt and fear in everyone’s mouths?

Doesn’t he know what the rest of this passing in Scripture says? It reads on:

“...and this is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified (set apart by God for His use); you were justified (made right with God) by the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”

Why didn’t Phil Robertson give his huge viewing audience the Good News of God’s unconditional love, eternal forgiveness and peace forever by faith and faith alone in His Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior? He missed his chance. How sad.
