I’ve noticed as a married man that there are times in our marriages when it is just nice to be right.
Take for instance Monday night. By the time I got home from the council meeting, I was pretty hungry. I didn’t grab anything to eat before my evening meetings.
Looking around, I found part of a package of hot dogs. I thought about cooking those, but I wasn’t in the mood for hot dogs.
I saw the carton of eggs in the fridge and thought those might be good. Then, I had an epiphany. I wondered what would happen if I cooked some canned salmon in with the eggs. This, I had to try.
So I threw some olive oil in the frying pan, put the salmon in and let it cook for a while before throwing in my eggs and shredded cheese to scramble. I had some corn niblets with it and shared it all in the same bowl.
Not only was this meal done quickly, it was pretty tasty. I’d even go so far as to say it was delicious.
Mid-meal, Marcy came in. She didn’t care for how the salmon made the house smell and when she gazed upon my bowl, she asked what I was eating.
I told her of my rather brilliant concoction and she was completely grossed out. I have to say, though, that after eight years of marriage and nearly 10 total years together, she would be used to my odd palette and my creativity in the kitchen.
It’s good to know I can still amaze my wife, even without trying.
She wasn’t yelling or angry, she was just giving me a hard time. She challenged me, “You find a recipe that puts salmon with eggs! Who in the world besides you would even THINK of that concoction?”
