Loebsack visits Pella

Pella — Congressman Dave Loebsack was given a tour of Pella by Police Chief Robert Bokinsky yesterday afternoon.

Loebsack said he and Bokinsky traveled throughout the community. He had not spent much time in Pella, compared to Knoxville, in the time he campaigned for, and represented, Marion County.

Bokinsky and Loebsack discussed the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn. Though legislative reaction thus far has focused on gun control, Loebsack said there will be legislation introduced to improve America's mental health care system. This includes identifying potentially dangerous people, providing resources to support mental health care locally and ensuring that care is available.

Bokinsky said the tour he gave Loebsack was comprehensive. He discussed the criminal justice program available at the career academy, the Christian Opportunity Center and Wesley Life.
