Knoxville — Leslie Miller was elected as President of the Knoxville School Board Monday night.
The previous president, Tim McDonald, did not want to take the leadership role again. Former Vice President Stephanie Vickroy also did not express interest in taking on either role.
Mike Helle will serve as Miller's vice president. The two were sworn in by Board Secretary Craig Mobley after the election.
In other school board business, Mobley, the district's business manager, presented the board with a financial report. The report was approved by the board. In the report, Mobley showed that the district's financial situation is getting stronger, and the steps the board has taken over the past few years are working. Enrollment continues to decline, however.
Board member Mark Mahoney was absent from the meeting. Look for a full report on Monday's meeting in the Sept. 14 Journal-Express.
