Position changes on Monday's Knoxville School Board agenda

Knoxville — The agenda is full for Monday's regular Knoxville School Board meeting, and it will include a proposal to transfer Middle School Vice Principal Linda Abbott to the Principal position at West Elementary.

As has been reported, Mike Montgomery will retire at the end of the school year from his position as Principal at West. Abbott's first job with the Knoxville School District was as Principal at Northstar Elementary. She was transferred the the Middle School job when the district closed East Elementary. Recommendations have been prepared for the board to consider, when filling vacancies created this year. At least 27 district employees are retiring at the end of the school year.

The board is also expected to receive the initial proposal for a new contract from the Knoxville Education Association, the teachers' union. A closed session is scheduled following Monday's regular meeting in which the board will discuss its negotiations strategy.

A request has been made for assistant coaches in varsity soccer. Girls' Coach Charlie Fisher and Boys' Coach Dylan Mick will be in attendance. Staff is recommending the board deny the request because of success without assistant coaches. Staff also believes that there are not enough participants to warrant assistant coaches and budgets have already been established.

The full board agenda, and information regarding each item, accompanies this article. Look for a report following the meeting next week.
