Pleasantville Sno*Ball Festival is this weekend

Pleasantville — Pleasantville High School will crown its Sno*Ball King and Queen at Friday's boys' basketball game. The Pleasantville Chamber of Commerce, for the fifth year, will continue the Sno*Ball celebration on Saturday with a day full of activities.

The king and queen will be crowned during halftime of the boys' game against Lenox. The games begin with the girls at 6:15 p.m.

Events for the Chamber's Sno*Ball include a chili cook-off and a performance by Knoxville hypnotists, sisters Bonnie and Jenny Slykhuis. Their act is known as “Hypno-Sis.”

Every year, it keeps getting bigger,” Pleasantville Chamber of Commerce Director Don Dursky said of the Sno*Ball.

The chili cook-off is modeled after one of Pleasantville's biggest annual events, the Pig Out. The competition is expected to be fun, with the police and fire departments each having an entry, as well as a husband vs. wife entered into the contest.

Dursky is hopeful that the Sno*Ball will be as significant for the community as the Fourth of July Celebration and the Pig Out. Long-term, Durksy's goals with the Chamber is to coordinate among different groups in the community to grow the Sno*Ball.

“I think with more coordination, we could do better with the Sno*Ball,” Dursky said.
