No races in school board elections

Knoxville — The candidates for the 2013 School Board Election have been named, and there is no competition in any of Marion County's school board races. The filing deadline for the election was Thursday, Aug. 1, at 5 p.m. 

In Knoxville, in which there are two seats open, the candidates are Michael Moats and Andrew Schmidt. Incumbent board members Stephanie Vickroy and Mark Mahoney did not file. 

Shane Ripperger and Travis Hansaker have filed to be on the ballot for the two seats open on the Melcher-Dallas Board. Incumbent Ann Fee did not file. 

As for Pella, incumbents Gregg Gustafson and Joan Corbin have filed. Gustafson is an at-large member and Corbin represents District 2. Katie Peterson, who was elected to fill a vacancy in District 1, did not file for reelection. The candidate for that seat is Michelle Van Maanen. 

Kenny Sutter is seeking reelection to the Pleasantville School Board. There are two seats open, and Ron Danks is seeking the second one. Jenny Hilsabeck did not file paperwork to seek reelection.

Twin Cedars School Board members Steve Gilkerson and Brian Moore are seeking reelection. Moore is an at-large member of the board and Gilkerson represents District 3. 

The election will be held Tuesday, Sept. 10. Knoxville School District voters will also decide whether or not to continue the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy.
