Pleasantville — Two portable classrooms will allow Pleasantville Elementary School to ensure that all students will have a better learning environment when classes resume soon.

The fifth grade class and Area Education Agency will be in the portable rooms, reports Superintendent Bob Miller. In the past, some special education students have had to be located inside offices, closets and other smaller rooms. When the students return on Aug. 22, all classes will have ample space.

"We just needed to get them in a better learning environment," Miller said.

Part of the reason for the space issue is the growth of Pleasantville's Prekindergarten program. There cannot be more than 20 children in one class, and every grade level in the elementary school has over 50 students.

A $3.5 million heating, ventilation and cooling (HVAC) system upgrade at the middle school and high school will also be complete when classes resume. This project began with the prior administration. Window air conditioners were used in this building prior to this work.
