Oskaloosa native to be inducted into Drake Relays Wall of Honor

OSKALOOSA — The 2024 Drake Relays is quickly approaching and it was announced this week that they will be adding four long-time officials to the Drake Relays Wall of Honor this year. Among those four honorees is Oskaloosa native Dave Beaty.

Beaty spent 25 years (1985-2009) serving as an official at the Drake Relays working at the Start/Finish area where he would dealt with lane, running and relay exchange violations.

Beaty also served as an official starter for the Iowa High School Girls’ and Boys’ State Track Meet from 2000-2009 and was named the Iowa High School State Track Official of the Year in 2004.

Beaty’s name will be added to an Officials Wall of Honor plaque located inside the Knapp Center.

"This completely caught me by surprise,” Beaty said. “I feel extremely fortunate to be one of four officials being inducted this year. The Drake Relays have always been a major element in my life. This is a very humbling experience and I will treasure this honor always." 

The 114th edition of the Drake Relays will be held April 24-27 at Drake Stadium.
