The Knoxville seventh grade football team traveled to Albia on Thursday for a make-up football game with the Blue Demons. The Panthers received the opening kickoff and marched down the field to take a quick 8-0 lead after Ian Crossett scored from 4 yards out and Carter Bailey added the two-point conversion.
On the Blue Demons' next drive the Panther defense was able to force a turnover as Cooper Worth recovered a fumble at the Knoxville 45-yard line. The score remained 8-0 at halftime and after a great kickoff by Kyle Ramsey to start the second half the Panthers were in excellent field position as they forced Albia to punt.
Colton Jones found the end zone shortly after on a quarterback sneak making the score 14-0. The defense remained perfect on the day and held on to shutout Albia 14-0. The A team record stands at 3-2 on the season.
"I was really happy with how the team started the game off quickly by making solid blocks up front and running the football hard," Coach Jason Gramlich said. "We were able to take advantage of the opportunities Albia's defense was giving us and made a statement to start the game. Penalties hurt us for most of the first half as I felt we could have put a few more points on the board but our defense really was the difference in the game. We are winding down our season and looking forward to playing a good Oskaloosa team on our field on Tuesday to end the season. I hope to see a lot of Panther fans there to support us in wrapping up our year."
