Regional Basketball Openers

The 2014 Regional Girls’ High School Basketball pairings are out.

Class 4A

In Class 4A Region 5, the Pella High Lady Dutch open against Newton at 7 p..m. in Pella, Wednesday, Feb. 19.

The winner faces Ballard at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 in Ballard. The Ballard Bombers entered Feb. ranked No. 3 in the state.

Teams in the bottom half of the bracket include Washington, Fairfield and Grinnell.

In Class 4A Region 6 the Knoxville Panthers face the Norwalk Warriors at 7 p.m. Feb. 19 in Norwalk.

The winner will play Perry at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22. Perry entered the month of Feb. ranked No. 4.

Teams in the bottom of the bracket include Carlisle, Oskaloosa and Indianola.

Class 2A

The Pella Christian Eagles open Class 2A Regional action Saturday, Feb. 15 at home at 7 p.m. against Colfax-Mingo.

The winner then takes on Van Meter in Van Meter Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m.

Fort Dodge St. Edmond, ranked fifth in 2A, is the only team among the top 15 ranked teams in the regional.

Pleasantville is also in the regional as they face Woodward-Granger in the first round at Woodward-Granger Saturday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m.

The Pleasantville - Woodward-Granger winner then takes on Des Moines Christian Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. at Des Moines Christian.

Class 1A

In Class 1A the Melcher-Dallas Saints face Tri-County in a first round regional game in Melcher-Dallas starting at 7 p.m. The winner plays again Tuesday, Feb. 18 against Lynnville-Sully, ranked No. 5 in 1A. That game will be in Sully tipping at 7 p.m.

Twin Cedars is also in Class 1A Regional 5. The Sabers open at home against HLV at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13.

The winner of the TC first round contest plays again Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. against English Valley at North English High School.

English Valley had been ranked earlier in the season among the top 15 teams in Class 1A.
