CodyRay ready for Nebraska

---- — Knoxville eighth grader CodyRay Smith will get a very unique opportunity to represent the state of Iowa in a USA Wrestling Meet in Nebraska.

CodyRay will represent Team Iowa at the Combine Clash wrestling meet Saturday, Jan. 18. The meet will be held at the Devaney Center in Lincoln, Neb.

Team Iowa middle school wrestlers were selected following competition at the Tour of Iowa S.E. Polk event held in December.

Each of the champions at the S.E. Polk Meet became eligible to wrestle in the USA Combine Clash event in Nebraska.

CodyRay won the 140 pound weight class to earn his trip to Nebraska.

The middle school wrestling event between Team Iowa and Team Nebraska will take place Jan. 18 prior to the start of the University of Iowa vs. University of Nebraska Big 10 Wrestling Dual.

CodyRay is the son of Chad and Rebecca Smith of Knoxville.

CodyRay has a 14-4 record on the mat this year. He competes on the Knoxville Middle School Wrestling Team under the direction of head coach Jordy Ammons.

Knoxville’s lone home meet of the year will be Tuesday, Feb. 4 in a meet starting at 4:30 p.m. at the Knoxville Middle School Gymnasium.
