Knoxville — Ralph "Cappy" Capitani retired from the Knoxville Raceway before the season began. Saturday afternoon, before the first races of the season, many gathered to join him in celebration.
Capitani worked for the Marion County Fair Association for 45 years. He held many titles at the raceway during his time.
His retirement opened the door for new general manager, Toby Kruse. Kruse had his first test, following last week's rainout, with the World of Outlaws in town April 28.
As for Cappy, he said he's been enjoying a lot of golf in his retirement. He was glad to see the crowd that was slowly beginning to gather for the party. Friends, well-wishers, race fans, community members and many others had gathered to say thank you.
