Twin Cedars rallies to defeat Melcher-Dallas 3-2 in net action

Marion County and Bluegrass Conference rivals Twin Cedars and Melcher-Dallas squared off on the volleyball court on Thursday, Sept. 19. The two teams played at Melcher-Dallas. Twin Cedars rallied from a 1-2 deficit to come back and win 3-2.

The Sabers came out strong in the first game and picked up a 25-21 win. A large and boisterous home crowd helped to propel the Saints to wins in games three and four. M-D took both games, rather easily winning 25-14 and 25-18. Twin Cedars gathered their composure and got back in the match by winning game four 25-18. The Sabers held a 4-3 lead in the fifth and deciding game when Brittney Roby got on a roll serving. Roby served the final 11 points of the game, six of which were aces. Twin Cedars had completed the comeback to pick up the BGC win.

“We played much better in game four,” commented Twin Cedars coach Mike Strasko. “They had an impressive crowd and I think we let that effect us in games two and three. We were standing flat-footed and we didn’t have the excitement we needed. The girls started overcoming the Melcher-Dallas crowd in game four. We played with more intensity, we got more excited and moved our feet. Game five was Brittney Roby. She got on a roll.”

Roby finished the night 23-25 serving, with eight aces. She also had 25 digs and five kills. Samantha Hammann led the team in kills, with 10. Hammann also had 25 digs and was 13-14, with one ace from the serve line. Baylee Zellmer had a team high 31 digs. She was 10-11 serving. Bailey Stone topped the assist chart, with 13. Stone also had five kills and was 12-13 serving, with five aces. Shelby DenBurger recorded three kills, seven assists, and was 12-15, with two aces from the serve line. Elizabeth Rowley contributed seven digs. She was also a perfect 17-17 serving, with four aces.
