Sabers open July with a mark of 26-1

Bussey — The Twin Cedars baseball team stepped out of conference play last week and played three non-conference games against teams from Southeast Iowa. The Sabers picked up wins over Cardinal of Eldon, Sigourney, and Van Buren Keosauqua. Twin Cedars improved to 26-1 overall. The Sabers were rated second in the Class 1A July 1 Iowa Radio Baseball Coaches Association Poll.

Twin Cedars 8-Cardinal Eldon 0

Twin Cedars traveled to Eldon to take on a very solid Cardinal baseball team. The Comets were 12-5 on the season. 

The Sabers got a solid pitching performance from Otis Roby to win 8-0. Roby threw a seven-inning no-hitter. He walked three and struck out 11.

Twin Cedars jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after scoring three runs in the first inning and two more runs in the second. The Sabers added another run in the fourth and two runs in the seventh inning.

Levi Jones led the TC offense going 3-4, with two RBI. Corey Harrell was 2-4, with 3 RBI. Drew Carlson went 2-4 at the plate, with one RBI. Coy Moore, Roby, and Eric Clark each had one hit.

Twin Cedars 14-Sigourney 3

Thursday, June 27 the Twin Cedars baseball team welcomed the Sigourney Savages to town. The Sabers celebrated senior night and recognized seniors Levi Jones, Eric Clark, Steven Thompson, and Matt Gaspar. 

The Sabers were a little rough on the Savages downing them 14-3. The Sabers scored all of their runs in the first three innings. 

Drew Carlson was the winning pitcher for TC. He allowed three runs, on six hits and four walks, during the five-inning game. Carlson struck out eight Sigourney batters.

Harrell led the offensive charge. He was 3-4 at the plate, with a home run, two singles, and two RBI. Hunter Embray was 2-2, with a double and two RBI. Jones had a hit and two RBI. Moore and Carlson each had one hit and one RBI. Brent Parker drove home a pair of runs. The Sabers also had eight walks.
