Roby pitches Sabers past Saints

Otis Roby had a rough first inning on the mound when Twin Cedars faced Melcher-Dallas Thursday, June 14. He walked two and gave up two hits as the Saints built a 3-1 lead. The next five innings Roby only faced 16 batters and surrendered just one hit as the Sabers rallied to down M-D 13-3 in six innings.

Melcher-Dallas got hits from Deven Breese and Caleb Bennett in the three-run first inning for the Saints. The lead was short lived as Twin Cedars came back to score three runs in the top of the second to take a 4-3 lead. Roby helped his own cause with a two-RBI single in the second.

Eric Clark, Coy Moore, and Roby had key hits in the top of the second. Roby drove in two runs. The Sabers added four runs in the fourth. Roby, Hunter Embray, Corey Harrell, and Clark all had hits. Embray had a two-RBI single. Brent Parker and Drew Carlson each hit a sacrifice fly that scored a run in the inning. Twin Cedars opened an 8-3 lead. The Sabers added two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Roby finished the night 4-5 at the plate, with three RBI. Embray was 2-3, with four RBI. Clark went 3-4, with one RBI. Moore and Harrell each had two hits and one RBI. Moore scored four times. Colton Bonnett went 2-4 at the plate.

Kenneth Wadle took the loss for the Saints. He gave up 14 hits, walked five, and hit two batters. He struck out four Saber batters.

Twin Cedars is now 12-6 overall and 7-0 in the Bluegrass Conference. Melcher-Dallas is now 3-9 on the season and 2-7 in the BGC.
