Tim Koerselman will take over the Pleasantville boys’ golf coaching position this spring, after coaching the Trojans track team for the past 27 years. This is Koerselman’s first year as a golf coach.
“I felt that head football coach Gabe Baker should have the opportunity to coach the track team,” commented Koerselman. “Track is a building block for the rest of our sports.”
The Pleasantville boys’ track team lost four players off of last year’s team that qualified for the district meet. Collin Thomas graduated. Josh Luna, Trever Zoss, and Patrick Sheehey have all switched to track to build upon success that they have had in baseball, football, and basketball.
That leaves Koerselman with just two returners. Those back for the Trojans include junior Cody Marsh and sophomore Cassin Garr. Joining them will be junior Trey Busick, sophomores Garrett Wise and Mason Vang, and freshmen Joe Day and Brad Wimmer.
“We have just seven golfers at this time,” commented Koerselman. “We will need four of these players to step up and join Garr and Marsh. Cody will be our number one golfer and has the potential to be a medalist for us at every meet.”
Koerselman said that Day, Wimmer, and Busick all played a lot of golf last summer.
“We have a lot of work to do,” stated Koerselman. “Hopefully the work that some of these young golfers put in last summer will pay off this spring.”
Koerselman said Mount Ayr and Nodaway Valley are the favorites to win the Pride of Iowa Conference Tournament.
