---- — The Pleasantville volleyball team competed in the Martensdale-St. Mary’s volleyball tournament Saturday. The Trojans finished the day with three wins and two loses.
PHS 2 Montezuma 1
The Trojans defeated the Montezuma Braves 2-1. Pleasantville took game one 21-17. Montezuma came back to win game two 18-21. The Trojans rallied to win the match by winning the third game 15-13.
Augusta Sinclair led the team with 16 kills, 14 digs, and three blocks. Kennedy Core recorded six kills, 16 digs, and was the leading server going 23-23 from the serve line, with a pair of aces. Alli Friday contributed 23 assists.
PHS 2, Martensdale 1
Pleasantville avenged an early season loss to Martensdale-St. Mary’s by downing the Blue Devils 2-1 at their tournament last weekend. Pleasantville won the first game 21-19. MSTM stormed back to take game two 21-12.
Momentum swung back to the Trojans as they grabbed the third game 15-9.
Sinclair had 13 kills, seven digs, and was 9-9 serving, with four aces. Core chipped in three kills, and 11 digs. She was also 8-10 serving. Friday had 18 assists and was 9-9 from behind the serve line. Konner Heaberlin was credited with three kills and eight digs. Amanda Moore and Samantha Thompson had seven and five digs respectively.
PHS 2, Van Meter 1
Pleasantville fell behind in their match with Van Meter when the Bulldogs took the first game 16-21. The Trojans fought back and won game two 23-21 and game three 15-10.
Sinclair knocked down 13 kills, had six digs, and was 9-10 serving, with three aces. Core added three kills, and eight digs. She was 12-14 from the serve line. Friday had 24 assists. Heaberlin and Bailey Oliva had five and three kills respectively.
PHS 1 Earlham 2
The Trojans fell to Earlham 2-1. Earlham took the first and third games by scores of 21-18 and 15-13. Pleasantville took game two by a score of 23-21.
Sinclair led the way with 13 kills and 12 digs. Core had seven kills and 12 digs. Friday recorded 17 assists.
Core was the top server going 10-10. Friday was 9-9 serving, with two aces. Moore was 9-10 serving, with three aces. Oliva was 9-10, Sinclair 8-9, with two aces, and Heaberlin 6-7, with two aces.
PHS 0, Murray 2
The Murray Mustangs were the dominant team at the tournament. They made short work of the Trojans winning the match 2-0. The Mustangs won by scores of 21-17 and 21-12.
Sinclair had nine kills in the match. Core recorded six kills. Friday was credited with 14 assists. She also led the team in serving going 7-9.
Pleasantville improved to 14-10 on the season and set a new record for wins. The old school record was 12 wins. The Trojans will have an opportunity to add to that win total this week.
