Video: Highlights from Melcher-Dallas girls vs Pleasantville

Melcher-Dallas —  

MacKenzie Suntken drained a three-point shot that gave the Melcher-Dallas girls’ basketball team a 49-47 lead with 40 seconds left in their game with Pleasantville Tuesday, Nov. 27. The Trojans were unable to respond on the offensive end and the Saints held on to get the 50-47 victory.
Kennedy Core scored 12 first quarter points for Pleasantville as the Trojans opened a 12-2 lead. Maddie Roland scored eight second quarter points to help kick start the M-D offense, but Pleasantville still held a 24-18 lead at the half.
The Saints cut down on their turnovers in the second half and were able to tie the game at 34-34 after three quarters. There were seven lead changes in the final quarter of play. Core had given the Trojans a 47-46 lead just seconds before Suntken nailed the game winner.
“I was proud of our girls tonight,” commented Melcher-Dallas head coach Jon Suntken. “They were down early, but they didn’t quit. They battled back and did a much better job on both ends of the floor in the second half. It was nice to get the win.”
Roland led Melcher-Dallas with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Suntken scored 12 points and pulled down five boards. Lexi Crozier recorded eight points and five assists. Jenny Petersen added seven points and five rebounds. Hannah Wilson and Jessica Anderson each scored four points.
Pleasantville coach Aaron Fichter was very happy with his team’s effort. “The girls played really hard,” commented Fichter. “Kennedy Core had an outstanding game. We had three freshmen on the floor for much of the fourth quarter. Our youth showed at times. We have improved a lot since our first game. This was a tough loss tonight.”
Core finished the night with 28 points. Maddie Harken added 10 points. Trisha Kunze scored six points.
