---- — Chase Wetterling was the lone state qualifier for the Melcher-Dallas Saints in track.
The State Meet was held last weekend at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
Wetterling made his presence felt as he grabbed a state medal in the process. In the 400 meter dash Wetterling was seventh overall in the field of 24.
The top eight all collect medals. Wetterling’s time in the event was 51.33 seconds. He was third in his heat.
Chase also qualified for state action in the 100. He ran 11.57 seconds to place 11th overall.
Wetterling is a junior as he’ll return to M-D next year.
Earlier this year Chase Wetterling picked up three conference gold medals by winning the 100, 200 and 400 meter events.
This was his second year competing at state.
Chase was accompanied to the state competition with his coach and a manager, who is a good friend, Kale Critchlow.
He is very active in sports at Melcher-Dallas. He competes on the football, basketball, baseball and track teams.
“My favorite sport is football,” he replied. “I’m probably better at basketball. My third favorite sport is track.”
The Saints couldn’t get enough boys to go out for baseball this year, so the Saints are without a team this summer.
“I’m very disappointed we will not be having a baseball program this year.”
