Fourth straight Bluegrass Conference Title for the TC Sabers in softball

---- — The Twin Cedars softball team entered last week tied with Murray at the top of the Bluegrass Conference at 13-1.

Because of an early season rainout the Sabers and the Mustangs played each other Wednesday, July 3, and again on Friday, July 5. The two teams split the games and ended the season tied for the Bluegrass Conference title at 14-2.

Twin Cedars 6-Murray 5

The Sabers rallied from a 4-0 deficit to top the Mustangs at home July 3. The Mustangs’ Cydney Hembry hit a first inning two-run home run to give Murray an early lead. The Mustangs scored two more runs in the top of the third to open a 4-0 advantage.

TC scratched out a run in the bottom of the third inning. Brittney Roby drew a one out walk and eventually scored on an RBI single by Alee Hugen. TC added another run in the bottom of the fifth.

The Sabers went into the bottom of the seventh inning trailing 4-2. Megan Anderson led off the inning with a walk. Roby hit a triple that scored Anderson. Roby scored on a sacrifice fly by Hugen to tie the game at 4-4 and send it into extra innings.

Both teams scored a run in the ninth inning. Hugen had an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game at 5-5. The Sabers held Murray scoreless in the top of the 10th.

Bailey Dunkin led off with a double in the bottom of the 10th. Dunkin moved to third base on a Baylee Zellmer. Anderson came through with a single that scored Dunkin. Twin Cedars walked off with the 6-5 win.

Roby earned the win in the circle. She allowed five hits and four walks. Roby also struck out 11 Mustang batters.

The win guaranteed the Sabers at least a share of the conference title.

Twin Cedars 5-Murray 6

Twin Cedars traveled to Murray on Friday, for the final game of the regular season. The Mustangs needed a win over TC in order to get a share of the Bluegrass Conference title.

The Sabers scored two runs in the first inning and two more in the second to open a 4-1 lead. Murray scored a run in the bottom of the third to make it 4-2. TC plated a run in the fourth to stretch the lead back to three at 5-2. The Mustangs scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 5-5.

For the second time in three days the Sabers and the Mustangs had to go into extra innings to decide the game. This time it was Murray who came through with a run that gave the Mustangs the win and a share of the BGC Title.

Roby pitched all eight innings for the Sabers. She gave up four hits and eight walks. Roby struck out nine Mustang batters.

Offensively, Ayla Crosby was 2-4, with two RBI. Bailey Stone was 2-4, with a double and an RBI. Roby was 2-4, with three runs scored. Dunkin, Hugen, and Zellmer each had one hit.

Twin Cedars has tied for the Bluegrass Conference softball title for the fourth consecutive season.

The Sabers tied with Moravia in 2012 and again in 2011. TC shared the title with Marion County rival Melcher-Dallas in 2010.
