Saints finish 2-1 at home tournament

The Melcher-Dallas volleyball team finished 2-1 in their own tournament last weekend. The Saints won matches against Mormon Trail and Seymour. They were defeated by Martensdale-St. Mary’s.

Melcher-Dallas came out a little flat against Mormon Trail. Trail took the first game 12-21. The Saints came storming back to win games two and three 21-12 and 15-9, to win the match.

In game two the Saints led 8-4 before widening the lead late in the game to 18-10 en route to the 21-12 win.

In decisive game three, the two Saints squads were tied at 3-3 before M-D wen tup 8-3 behind a pair of ace serves by Anastastia Dennison.

A kill by MacKenzie Suntken put the Saints within a point of victory at 14-8, before they won 15-9.

Jessica Anderson led the team in kills with eight. MacKenzie Suntken recorded five kills, Jazmine Lutz added four kills, and Sydney Suntken had three kills. Anastasia Dennison and Kirsten Mull had 11 and eight assists respectively. Kaylee Houston had a team high nine digs. Dennison followed with seven digs. Lutz totaled five digs. M. Suntken had four digs.

M. Suntken was the leading server going 13-13, with one ace. Denison was 9-11 from the serve line, with five aces. Lutz was 6-8 serving, with one ace. Anderson finished 6-7 serving, with two aces.

The Saints made short work of the Seymour Warriors winning 2-0. M-D won by scores of 21-17 and 21-15.

Game one was a dogfight as the Saints led 17-16 before M-D tightened the defense for the 21-17 win.

After trailing 9-7 in game two the Saints went on a roll with Kirsten Mull serving. M-D led 18-9 with an 11-point run.

M. Suntken led the team in kills, with five. Anderson and Dennison each had three kills. Houston, Lutz, and Sydney Suntken had two kills apiece. Mull and Dennison had six and five assists respectively. Houston recorded a team high seven digs. M. Suntken added four digs. Mull was the leading server for the Saints going 10-12, with two aces.
