The regular meeting of the VFW Auxiliary – John Myers Post 3519 was called to order on Feb. 17, by President Alonna Gass at 5:30 p.m., with 13 members present. Two officers and one trustee absent. Also in attendance was – Donna Sorenson, State President. After opening ceremonies were conducted the meeting continued with no new member applications to be considered.
Acting secretary, Judie Kelderman read the minutes from previous regular meeting from Nov. 14. 2016. No corrections and minutes will be filed.

At the 2016 Department Convention, we passed a resolution to charge each Auxiliary for Department Convention expenses.
Department of Iowa 96th Annual State Convention will be June 1-4, 2017 at the 5 Sullivan Brothers Convention Center, 205 W 4th St, Waterloo, IA 50701.
National Convention will be July 22-26, 2017 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
2017 Big Ten Conference will be Oct. 13-15, 2017 at the Minneapolis Marriott Airport Hotel, 2020 American Blvd., Bloomington, MN 55425.

Report given by Treasurer, Bev Jones. Bill submitted by Alonna Gass for cookies for State President visit. Bill submitted by Holly Van Wyk for Youth Activities committee crafts for handmade cards. Bills signed and approved by Trustees and given to Treasurer.
Ham & Bean Feed - Our Annual Ham & Bean Feed will be on Feb. 24, 2017. All profits for this event will continue to stay with the VFW Auxiliary. Tables will be set up after the joint meeting Feb. 23, 2017. Alonna made calls for pies to be donated. They are to be delivered to the VFW Thursday or after 9 a.m. Friday. Eight members said they could work the bean feed. They need to arrive by 4:30 p.m. Karen will be cooking the cornbread at the senior center.
Holly VanWyk reported there was no time of doing a Holiday Giving Tree at a local area business.
Year-end Committee Reports are due by April 1. All reports need to be submitted.
Americanism - Karen thanked members who attend service for our deceased member June Burton.
Community Service – Alonna asked to give her your volunteer hours by the end of the month.
Hospital – Bobby for Deb, donation of packaged cookies to the Community Based Outpatient Clinic.
Legislative Chairman Sandi Lee– Judie Kelderman read I want to let all of you know that because of your efforts in sending letters to our legislative representatives positive things have happened. Judie and will be getting names and addresses of our state representatives.
Marion County Scholarships – Bev reported that all scholarships were delivered to four Marion County Schools and will be picked up by March 8.
Audit Report for fourth Quarter read by – Diane Beaver. Motion to accept by Diana, second by Bobby. Motion carried.
At the resignation of Carla, no one has volunteered to finish her term out.
Alonna appointed Judie Kelderman to fulfill the duties until elections.
Post Commander, Jake Beaver presented a bill for building taxes, due March 1, 2017, delinquent April 1, 2017. Motion by Bobby, second by Dell. Motion passes.
5th District is putting together a Valentine theme basket for State Convention. President Genny Forbes sent an email asking for donations. Del Bennett made a motion to give a donation, second by Bobby. Motion passed. A check will be sent to Carol Holmes who will be in charge of putting it together. Money to go for State Ways & Means.
State President Donna reminded us that all fundraisers need to come before the auxiliary before being held. She also said it would be nice to have a standing sheet with all bills/donations we give to throughout the year and vote on them at the beginning of each term. President, treasurer, and secretary should have a copy of the sheet. This would be for local, state and national.
Jake asked that the auxiliary make the plans for the next joint VFW/VFWA meeting. It was decided to be April 27, 2017, at 6 p.m. Plans are to have meetings every other month.
Bobby made a motion to pay all bills, second by Diana. Motion carried.
Draping of the Charter was held for our member June Burton.
Donna Sorenson, State President for Iowa VFW made few suggestions on getting along with both Organizations, to continue supporting our Post.
Meeting adjourned at 6:41 p.m. by President Alonna after the closing ceremonies.
