Blue Ribbon Awarded for Best Bacon Dessert

DES MOINES — Matthew Phoenix of Ankeny won first place and a movie gift card award in the Iowa’s Best Bacon Dessert competition judged Saturday, Aug. 17, at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Jacqueline Riekena of West Des Moines earned second place. Julie Peterson of Knoxville claimed third place.

Contestants were challenged to create a dessert featuring bacon.

Entries were judged on taste, originality, appearance/presentation and story.

Wisconsin Exhibitor Took Top Honors in Iowa State Fair Sheep Show

DES MOINES — Brayden Bowers of Belmont Wis., won the Grand and Reserve Grand Champion banners in the Jackpot Lamb show judged at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Quarter Horses Win Big at Iowa State Fair Competition

DES MOINES — Winners in more than 70 classes of competition were named in the 2019 Iowa State Fair Quarter Horse Show.

The Iowa State Fair Quarter Horse Show was a double-judged show. In such a show, the use of two judges, independent of one another, takes place. Thus, two sets of results are produced with two full sets of American Quarter Horse Association points being awarded.

DES MOINES — Heartland Simmentals of New Hampton took home the Grand Champion Percentage Bull banner in the Simmental Cattle show judged at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Reck Brothers N Sons of Blakesburg took home the Grand Champion Purebred Bull and Champion Iowa Bull at the Iowa State Fair. Addyson Lehman of West Liberty took home Grand Champion Foundation Female. Kiersten Jass of Garner won Grand Champion Purebred Female and Champion Iowa Female.
